Hi Everyone!!
Just to let you know a little bit about me... People often ask me where
I am from because of my accent. After finding out that I am from Trinidad and
Tobago in the Caribbean, the reaction is more than often "But you´re white!" :-)
Well, there is an explanation to it all. In short, because Trinidad was a
Spanish colony since the "discovery" made by Christopher Columbus in 1498 when
the Amerindians were already happily living there; the bringing in of slaves
with the influx of the French during the French Revolution in the late 1700s
(you´ll have to read up on that cuz it is too much to explain in one sentence);
becoming a British Colony in 1797 and then becoming Independant in 1962;
Trinidad´s population is "colourful" (I have no better way to describe it now).
So, my ancestry is from the French and Spanish side of the whole story! Whew!!
Now you know my history before I was even born!! ;-)
But the accent is also influenced by the 16 years that I lived in
Toronto, Canada where I focused on acting as a career. And who knows, maybe
after living in Germany for the last few years, there´s a bit of that in there
too!! Ja!!
Okay, you´re not bored yet?? Let talk about me in the performance
field. I love the adventure of creating different characters; digging deep
inside of my soul to find the emotion that drives each of them. Even though I
sing a lot of cover songs, each song I sing, becomes my own and I am so happy to
say that the audience identifies with that because that is exactly what I want.
I want you to feel with me whether it is happiness, anger, sadness, craziness...
the whole kit and caboodle!! (you know what that means right??)
To continue "airing my emotions" on stage, I continue to go back to
England every 2 months to perform with my band "Monique & In Ya Pocket",
sometimes even as a guest with the rockband "Redhouse"; and I have a great soul
and rock band in Germany called "Have Mersey" based in Luebeck. No matter where
I am, the audience and music touch my soul and I thank you all for that!!
